Priory's Motto

Leadership and History

As believers in the priesthood of all believers, our church government is congregational and leadership is given through the church-elected Priory Park Church Council, presently made up as follows:
  • Pastor
  • Clerk
  • Five Elders
  • Four Deacons (of discipleship, of fellowship, of local outreach, of service)

First Baptist Church is located in the northern area of Guelph.  (First Baptist Guelph) With a missionary heart they sent eleven of their church families to South Guelph before the area had been developed.  This outreach began on Sept. 12, 1971.  After becoming settled at our present location, the fellowship grew into the Priory Park Baptist Church and as an officially independent Church on Nov. 30, 1975.  There was also a missionary interest in the students attending the University of Guelph.  This church's hope was, and still remains, that we should become a home to those away from home and passing through Guelph.

Later on we were recognized as a member in good standing by the Guelph Association of Baptist Churches and in June 1976 by the Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec(BCOQ).  On Easter Sunday, April 15, 1979, we held our first service in our new and present sanctuary.  A Dedication Service followed shortly after on May 27, 1979.

We are still committed to our evangelistic mission and over the years we have prayerfully endeavored, in spite of many challenges, to fulfill our role in south Guelph.
